Huw Kingston’s Alpine Odyssey has officially wrapped up, with two successful backcountry screenings at Craig’s Hut (Mt Stirling) and Whites River Hut (Kosciuszko National Park) to cap off the successful tour.
In addition to the special backcountry screenings Alpine Odyssey visited Canberra, Jindabyne, Tumut, Bundanoon, Sydney, Melbourne, Bright, Falls Creek and Hobart.
As the screenings travelled across the country, winter 2024 came and went far too suddenly, thanks to a crazily warm August and despite our praying for snow at all the screenings.
For those of us passionate about snow and snowsports it hurt, and for the resorts and alpine communities it has been a difficult time. For sure the climate is changing, an aspect the film and the screenings highlighted.
We will get big winters again for sure, that will put a smile on everyone’s face, but the reality is we need to push governments, businesses and importantly ourselves to take action to reduce our impacts.
POW Needs Your Help – Get Your Raffle Tickets
So far Alpine Odyssey has raised over $25,000 for Save The Children and POW Australia with a tour goal of $30,000. You can help us hit the target by getting your tickets for the Big Raffle below!
“Money raised from the Steep Reflections tour last year was pivotal in funding the ‘Our Changing Snowscapes’ report, bringing the most up to date scientific research on the challenges facing our Australian Alps. We hope the fundraising from Alpine Odyssey will facilitate the roll out of POW’s new campaign ‘Our Mountains, Your Voice’ so we can continue to represent the interests of our community.”
