WHY IS PROTECTING OUR ALPINE LANDSCAPE IMPORTANT?

The ‘Our Changing Snowscapes Report’ by POW x ANU indicates that if the current trajectory of climate change continues, Australian Alpine environments will deteriorate significantly. This means shorter ski seasons, increased bushfire risk and drastic financial impacts to alpine businesses if we don’t take climate action.

POW Australia is fighting for a future where Australia’s alpine environment and the communities and businesses that depend on it, still exist.

Directly funding outcome-driven initiatives

POW Australia is a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers! This means your membership will directly fund critical action in protecting the integrity of Australian winters now and into the future. This includes education, essential research and advocacy on climate action.

Community and environmentally driven research

Within the past year, POW Australia has sourced and invested all our funding back into the community. Close to $40,000 of funds has been invested into the ‘Our Changing Snowscapes: Climate Change Impacts and Recommendations for the Australian Alps’ Report to undertake critical research into the future-state of our beloved alpine regions. This report is the first of its kind in Australia, synthesising research into the broad range of environmental, social and economic climate impacts on the Australian Alps.

Future POW initiatives

Findings of the ‘Our Changing Snowscapes Report’ emphasises the need for climate mitigation at local, state, national and global levels. Calling for drastic action to mitigate climate action to support a sustainable transition that preserves the economic, environmental and social integrity of our precious alpine landscapes.

We need your help to continue our initiatives in protecting our diverse and unique Alpine landscapes. This means financial support that will fund key advocacy, further research and educational initiatives at local, state and national levels.
